Is Wheel Alignment and Wheel Balancing the Same?
This is a frequently confused aspect of wheel alignment, and the majority of our clients believe they are the same. Let us tell you, they aren’t.
Wheel alignment
Wheel alignment is the process of adjusting the suspension of a vehicle to achieve an appropriate angle at which the wheels make contact with the ground. To correct this, our technicians analyse and rectify three angles that impact your wheel’s alignment: caster angle, camber angle, and toe angle. The appropriate wheel alignment is achieved once all three angles are restored to their original positions.
Wheel balancing
Wheel balancing is solely concerned with the relationship between the wheel and the tyre. It refers to the process of balancing the weights of the wheel and the tyre. To maintain weight and alignment synchronisation, balancing is always done in conjunction with wheel alignment.
Keeping a well-balanced weight in the wheel and tyre combo is critical for a smooth and stable drive, reduced tyre wear, and vibration elimination. Unbalanced tyres significantly increase the likelihood of wheel and suspension damage.
This brings us to one more category that works in conjunction with the above services, yet is distinctly different in its functionality: tyre rotation.
Tyre rotation
Tyre wear is never uniform across all four wheels, regardless of whether the vehicle is a front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive. Because of constant steering and braking, as well as to compensate for the majority of the weight at the front of the car, the front two tyres are always subjected to more pressure.
To ensure that all four tyres wear evenly, it is best to swap tyres between the front, rear, and spare wheels.
